The general sense is that this is going to be a very big loss not just to the local community around Turlough and Castlebar but to the wider community in the west of Ireland and beyond.

Christmas Custom tour at the National Museum

You have up until the end of the month to get on board with the Focus on Irish History (1850-1950) daily tour at the Museum of Country Life. Once December kicks in the daily tour will focus on Christmas Customs in the lead-up to the festive season. The tours take place daily at 3pm, from Tuesday to Saturday. The tours cost €2 per person and children under 16 go free. Tours can be pre-booked also.

New hoard of Early Bronze Age gold from Coggalbeg opens at museum

The hoard of Early Bronze Age goldwork which formed part of the contents of a pharmacy safe stolen from Sheehan’s Chemists, Strokestown, Co Roscommon, in March 2009 was officially opened by Jimmy Deenihan, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht in the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar, yesterday (Thursday). Safe Secrets: the Story of the Coggalbeg Hoard will be on display until Summer 2012.

He is arrested again for the usual few hours, but despite his latest effort, Cadbury's say that he is not their man for the new Milk Tray ad...back to the drawing board for the caped crusader. It snows and rains and freezes.
